Trumpet Vines in Gardens
Trumpet vines, also called as hummingbird vines, are among the flowering vines boasting of their trumpet-like flowers. These vines are popular as a perennial garden plant in many countries around the world. They are great additions to the garden since they are bright and have visible colors.
Common Types of Trumpet Vines
Yellow Bells or Yellow Trumpet bush can be found in most areas of the Americas. This type of trumpet vine can grow up with the height of a tree and must be trimmed yearly so as to maintain a 3 to 4 meter height.
Cape Honeysuckle, as compared to other trumpet vines, needs to maintain a vine-like growth since it grows very fast. Owners of this type of vine should regularly trim it so that the bushy state of the vine will be maintained.
Trumpet Creepers are the most popular types of vines since they can cover up walls to maintain a nice Victorian effect. They can be used as hedges since they are self-climbing vines. However, some houses only allow their trumpet creepers as wall climbers since they are very invasive when are planted next to the house. They should also be planted as far as possible from the flowering garden due to its aggressive nature. Some gardeners use in ground barrels so as to control the growth of this type of trumpet vines.
For households which would love to have trumpet vines in their gardens, it is always important to note that without proper maintenance, the vines would just grow all over the place. There are some vines which might do more harm than good especially on telephone poles or wooden gates. Thus, it is always important to make sure that they only grow at a certain height and texture so that they will not run over the whole structure that it clings to.
